Python is yet another interpretted language. Python is gaining popularity, but I haven't had much experience with the language. Python also supports a compiled version as well.

Python, like Perl, TCL/TK and PHP (almost every language except for Visual Basic) comes with most Linux ditributions, so no problems there. For the entripid Windows user, ActiveState ActivePython and Python.org offer Python downloads.
